The Making of Snakes & Devils
A History of the Singapore Grand Prix
Snakes & Devils is derived from a much larger ongoing book on racing in Asia to one that now focuses on the history of the Singapore Grand Prix. The original project commenced in 2002 while the author lived in Hong Kong. The research has taken the author across the seven seas, to principalities as far as Andorra in the Northern Hemisphere, to Auckland in the Southern Hemisphere, and almost everywhere in between. Two hundred hours of tape recordings, including one in a particularly loud bar in Hong Kong, and several hours of 8mm film footage, have yielded material for two major works on motorsport in the region, one of which (A History of the Singapore Grand Prix) will be published in June 2008 by Marshall Cavendish Editions. The photos and basic captions in the gallery show a small portion of photos taken by the author and friends that capture the spirit of the making of Snakes & Devils over the course of the last five years.
